State of Texas Grants Third Approval to ORYXE Energy for NOx-Reducing Biodiesel Additive Technology
Irvine, CA (PRWEB) October 2, 2008 -- ORYXE Energy announced today that the new ORYXE® LED+ additive recently approved by the State of Texas for use with diesel also has been approved for use with biodiesel. The approval marks the third time the company has successfully passed extensive biodiesel emissions testing to meet the standards of the TxLED (Texas Low Emission Diesel) program. TxLED is the cleaner-burning diesel fuel mandated for use in 110 Texas counties that do not meet Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) clean air standards.
The latest approval by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) allows fuel producers to utilize the new ORYXE additive at a lower treat rate in biodiesel blends up to B20 to achieve TxLED compliance. A biodiesel blend consisting of 80 percent or more TxLED-compliant diesel can now be treated with 0.85 milliliters of additive per gallon, down from the previous 1.25 milliliters per gallon required.
In addition to the new treat rate, ORYXE® LED+ for Biodiesel also has a higher flash point, allowing for safer transport and storage.
"Our latest TCEQ approval allows fuel producers to continue to use one additive for both diesel and biodiesel fuel and to do so more safely and affordably," says James M. Cleary, chairman and chief executive officer of ORYXE Energy. "We've used a higher concentration of our active ingredient to make a lower treat and price possible without losing our proven emissions benefits."
The active, proprietary ingredient in the ORYXE Energy's additives is biodegradable, non-toxic and compatible with fossil fuels and biodiesel.
The latest tests at the West Virginia University Engine and Emissions Research Laboratory show that ORYXE LED+ for Biodiesel meets the requirements of the TxLED program, which was created to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) from diesel fuel. The new approval will be publicly available on the TCEQ Website, which also contains ORYXE Energy's prior approvals.
Numerous fuel producers and government fleets including the City of Dallas, City of Austin and the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority use ORYXE Energy diesel and biodiesel additives to reduce emissions. The technology is removing thousands of tons of NOx from the air in Texas every year.
With the TCEQ approval, all ORYXE Energy biodiesel customers will be migrated from the current product to the new formulation.
